Mrs. Heather Powers

Introducing Mrs. Heather Powers - Mrs. Powers will be teaching the four-year-old morning M-T-W classes, the Science and Religion Enrichment morning classes and the Pre-K five day afternoon classes.

Dear Parents,

Hello! My name is Heather Powers, and I am excited to be teaching the Pre-K and 4 yr. old classes here at IHM next school year.

In 2008, I graduated from Wilmington College University with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. After college, I was a substitute teacher for two years where I taught primary and secondary grades. I just completed my second year teaching at All Aboard Preschool, where I taught the full-time four year old classroom.

I have been married for seven years to my husband, Kevin and I am a mother of two very busy boys, Connor (age 5) and Grant (age 2). I also have a Labrador Retriever named Sausha, who is the sweetest dog anyone could ask for! In my free time I enjoy reading, running and doing any outdoors activities with my family.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher at age 12. I love watching children grow and working with them as they discover their world. My focus in preschool is to instill a love of learning through fostering the whole child physically, spiritually, socially and intellectually through age appropriate activities. I plan for our class to have fun while developing new skills in becoming independent learners who welcome the goodness of God.

I eagerly await the special time we will spend together as we enter this educational milestone together!

Looking forward to a fantastic year!

Mrs. Cindy Hopkins

Introducing Mrs. Cindy Hopkins - Mrs. Hopkins will be teaching the 2-day and 3-day morning three-year-old classes.

I am married to Cass Hopkins and have two wonderful children – Brady (10) my stepson and Gabriella (6) our daughter. We also have a new puppy Paytin.

I began my academic life at Guardian Angels but at the age of ten we moved to Milford, Ohio where I completed my elementary and middle school years at St. Andrew. My high school days were spent at St. Ursula Academy and then I attended the University of Dayton where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

After college, I had a successful career working in corporate America but had always hoped to return to school and earn my teaching certificate. The time arrived after having my daughter and realizing that I my desire to work with children was far greater than continuing my career in corporate America. For the past two years I have been working on completing my credentials to teach Montessori Early Childhood Education while also working at the Montessori Center Room where I was afforded the opportunity to work with three, four and five year olds. This past year I also completed my internship at Country Hills Montessori East where I worked primarily with three year olds. Both teaching opportunities provided me with insight on how truly unique and gifted each child is and how each child needs the freedom to discover who they are and what they can do. I look forward to being part of this new adventure at Immaculate Heart of Mary and I look forward to meeting you and your children.

Hobbies/Interests: When not working I am typically with my children at Kindermusik, baseball or soccer. We spend many of our summer days at Coney Island where I teach swimming lessons and where my children love to play. When extra time permits I enjoy reading, doing cross stitch and baking.

Mrs. Carol Wells

Introducing Mrs. Carol Wells. Mrs. Wells will be teaching our all day four-year-old class.
Hi, my name is Carol Wells and I grew up in Cincinnati and was recruited to play tennis at Rollins College in Orlando, FL. I got my Bachelor’s degree as well as Master’s degree in Education at Rollins. I specialized in Early Childhood. After graduation, I taught first grade for five years at Park Maitland Private School. In the summers I taught preschool. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home when I had my children but I am eager to get back to the classroom. My husband and I have three children Caroline (12), Whitney (10), Cannon (6) and Harbor (a golden retriever). Cannon will be a first grader in the Fall at IHM. During my free time I like spending time with my family and friends and also watching my kids in the many sports they enjoy. I feel very blessed to be a part of this wonderful IHM community and am looking forward to meeting all of you soon.
